Bank Exploit Funds Flow Into ETH: Crypto Market Update, November 5, 2026
By David · Market Update · 2026-11-05
A wallet that forensic analysts link to an alleged exploit of French bank Crédit Mutuel Arkéa converted roughly $63 million of USDC and USDT into 27,553 ETH across 35 trades, according to November 4 intel. Stablecoins can be frozen by their issuers. ETH can't, and that is the whole reason for the swap.
For traders, the practical issue is supply. Someone now holds a large ETH position with every incentive to move it quietly, and that overhang sits on the market while ETH leads the majors higher.
A $133 Million Bank Hack Goes On-Chain
On-chain investigator ZachXBT says suspected losses at Crédit Mutuel Arkéa exceed $133 million, The Block reported. The bank has yet to confirm the figure, so treat the size as an allegation for now.
The freeze record so far is mixed. Authorities reportedly froze 1.14 million USDT, while 2.53 million USDC remained unfrozen as of November 4. Some funds may also have moved toward Monero. XMR shows up on our scanners this window with five bullish flags, a coincidence worth noting and nothing more.
From a structure standpoint, I'd watch two things: whether that 27,553 ETH starts hitting exchanges, and whether issuers tighten freeze policy in response. Either one can move ETH on a day when nothing else is happening.
Liquid Patches the L-BTC Hole
The other infrastructure story is Liquid. The network reportedly held about 4,271 BTC on November 3, matching L-BTC in circulation. That closes a gap created in September, when a flaw allowed unbacked tokens to be minted and left roughly 602 BTC missing after partial repayment.
Full backing on paper still leaves the exit problem. Federation withdrawals remain restricted as of November 4, so anyone leaving L-BTC depends on SideSwap liquidity and wallet capacity. Any L-BTC discount to BTC is the cleanest live read on how much the market trusts the fix.
Polkadot had its own reminder about old bugs. Parity's November 2 incident report says an attacker exploited a flaw during an October 24 to 26 incident, costing the Treasury $1.381 million by manipulating dotUSD's recorded supply, CryptoSlate reported. Users lost no funds and dotUSD stayed backed by USDT. The flaw had been fixed four months earlier, which raises fair questions about deployment.
Soft PMIs Meet Firm Hiring
The week's US data split along a clean line. Activity and price gauges came in softer, while labor data came in stronger.
• S&P Global Services PMI (Oct): 56.1 against a 57.9 forecast, a clear miss.
• ISM Services PMI (Oct): 54.5 against 54.8, with the services prices index easing to 73.0 from 74.0.
• ISM Manufacturing (Oct): PMI beat at 55.5 versus 54.5, while prices fell to 75.2 against a 77.2 forecast.
• JOLTS job openings (Sep): 7.523 million, well above the 7.150 million forecast.
• ADP private payrolls (Oct): 86K, ahead of forecast and close to the prior 90K.
Cooling input prices give the Fed some room. Firm hiring takes part of it back. Crypto rallied anyway, which tells me the softer price data carried more weight this week.
On the policy side, the Fed requested public comment on two proposals for stablecoin issuers it supervises under the GENIUS Act, covering reserve assets, capital, risk management and safekeeping, per the Federal Reserve. The proposals are open for comment, with the window closing 60 days after Federal Register publication. If adopted as written, the capital standards would likely favor larger issuers.
ETH Leads a Broad Rally
Every major finished the three days higher, with ETH out front despite the exploit overhang:
• ETH: +7.35% to $2,418.25
• XRP: +5.49% to $1.318
• SOL: +5.01% to $96.55
• BTC: +4.54% to $80,276.20
• BNB: +2.46% to $716.07
Bitcoin is back above $80,000. Block's results add a company-specific wrinkle: CoinDesk reports the firm faces a $764 million DOJ settlement as its bitcoin profit fell 50%. That is a Block problem and stays one unless it spreads.
Our scanners leaned heavily long. OP and PUMPFUN led with six flags each, both showing new longs. ATH, LTC, XMR and JCT each logged five bullish flags, and APT added four. VVV was the lone outlier at five flags with new shorts building. When nearly every flagged name leans the same way, positioning gets crowded, and crowded positioning is where stops cluster.
Regulators Hand Two Tokens a Win
Nasdaq approved the listing of Canary Capital's staked Injective ETF, The Defiant reported. Fund terms and a trading date are still unconfirmed, so INJ holders have an access story with no start time yet.
SEC Corporation Finance staff also said Canton Coin fits the digital-commodity category and would not recommend enforcement over specified reward minting, per a November 3 no-action letter covered by Unchained. The letter leaves secondary-market trading unaddressed. Separately, Upbit announced planned support for Collectrcrypt (CARDS) in KRW, BTC and USDT markets, with no launch time in its notice.
SOPH, CAP and a Gold Short
The Momentum Algo closed a CAP long at +2.52R, a clean hit to target during the rally.
Among member trades, 1goldenboyy caught a SOPH long for +113.7% at 10x in just under four hours. jodez took a BTC short for +16.6% at 10x over about eight and a half hours, a reminder that a rising three-day chart still has tradable pullbacks inside it. ahmad718 shorted XAUUSD for +5.4% at 25x in under 90 minutes.
Past results don't guarantee future returns; leveraged trading can lose more than your stake.
Jobless Claims and the ETH Overhang
Initial jobless claims are due today at 8:30 a.m. ET, with a 197K forecast against 194K previously. After strong JOLTS and ADP numbers, a low print would reinforce the firm-labor side of the ledger. Beyond the data, watch the exploit wallet's 27,553 ETH, any L-BTC discount on SideSwap, and whether the long-heavy scanner board starts to unwind.
