ETH RSI Hits 15: Crypto Market Update, 8 June 2026
By Jodez · Market Update · 2026-06-08
ETH's RSI hit 15 for the first time in history on Saturday, following $1.12 billion in liquidations across the market. That's a statistical outlier even by crypto standards. The question is whether this is a capitulation bottom or just a pause before more pain.
The RSI That Broke the Chart
ETH closed at $1,682.91, up 6.35% over three days, but that recovery follows a brutal flush. The RSI reading of 15 is unprecedented, lower than anything seen in the 2022 bear or the 2020 crash. The last time ETH was this oversold, it rallied hard. But context matters.
32% of ETH supply is currently locked in the unstaking queue. That creates what analysts are calling a 'delayed second wave' of sell pressure. Any bounce may be capped by the sheer volume of coins waiting to exit. The liquidation cascade was violent enough to reset funding rates, but the structural overhang remains.
Banks Buy, Hedge Funds Unwind
BTC gained 3.98% over the window to $63,456.7. The move higher masks a deeper rotation. The recent selling was not directional exits by long-term holders, it was hedge fund basis trade unwinds. Meanwhile, Citi, JPMorgan, and Wells Fargo have begun accumulating spot BTC for the first time.
The short-to-long liquidation ratio on BTC sits at 19:1. That's a massive imbalance. OKX perpetual funding has diverged to -453% annualized, meaning shorts are paying heavily to stay short. A trapped short squeeze is the most likely near-term catalyst if BTC can hold above $63k.
MicroStrategy sold 32 BTC this week, the first sale in four years. The company faces $1.7 billion in debt maturities, and this move signals potential liquidity stress. The 'infinite time horizon' thesis for corporate BTC treasuries just took a hit.
Macro: Jobs Beat Pushes Rate Cuts Further Out
Friday's Nonfarm Payrolls landed at 172K against a 95K forecast. That is a massive beat. Average Hourly Earnings and the Unemployment Rate both matched expectations at 0.3% and 4.3%, respectively.
A resilient labor market gives the Fed cover to keep rates restrictive. The immediate reaction was a dip in risk assets. For crypto, this means the macro tailwind of rate cuts is further away than the market had hoped. The jobs data reinforces a 'higher for longer' narrative that will cap speculative enthusiasm.
Scanner Signals: New Shorts on TWT and TA
Our scanners flagged several symbols with concentrated bias over the window:
• TWT, 9 flags, bearish, new shorts
• PIPPIN, 8 flags, bullish, new longs
• TA, 8 flags, bearish, new shorts
• BSB, 7 flags, bullish, new longs
• GWEI, 7 flags, bullish, new longs
• SAHARA, 6 flags, bullish, new longs
• ALLO, 6 flags, bearish, new shorts
• TON, 5 flags, bullish
The bearish flags on TWT and TA suggest traders are betting on further downside in those names. ALLO also saw bearish interest, but the Momentum Algo caught a long on it for +2.03R, a reminder that contrarian signals can flip fast.
Ethena Restructures, Pendle Mispricing in Play
Ethena is shifting its collateral backing into AAA CLOs yielding 6.9%, with a Coinbase distribution launch scheduled for June 9. The restructuring is expected to reprice sUSDE yields higher, creating a mispricing opportunity in Pendle PT/YT markets. This is a structural shift, not a short-term trade, the yield dynamics will change how DeFi users interact with both protocols.
Separately, Etherfi and Plume launched a $100M Liquid RWA vault backed by BlackRock and Fidelity. The vault integrates BlackRock's iShares AAA CLOA and Fidelity's Total Bond ETF via Plume's regulated infrastructure. It's capped at $25M initially, but it bridges $6B in Etherfi deposits directly into traditional fixed-income assets. The RWA narrative continues to gain institutional traction.
Community Wins: ScalpCity's 327% BTW Run
The Momentum Algo closed an ALLO long for +2.03R, a solid win against the bearish scanner bias.
Community members had an exceptional window:
• scalpcitymf caught a BTW long for +327.1% in 7h 15m using 10x leverage.
• scalpcitymf also took a FIDA long for +312.4% in 7h 2m.
• jgrails flipped a LAB long for +219.7% in just 47 minutes with a 2.65 R:R.
• 1goldenboyy shorted HYPE for +182.6% over nearly 5 days, capitalizing on the ETF liquidity exit.
• stocktraderdk rode a BEAT long for +126.2% in 14h 37m.
These are real results from real traders using our tools. The HYPE short by 1goldenboyy is particularly interesting, it aligns with our intel that authorized participants used the Grayscale HYPE ETF launch as a liquidity exit, and Arthur Hayes reduced his position by $18M after a public $100K bet.
What to Watch This Week
The Ethena collateral shift goes live on June 9, watch Pendle PT/YT markets for mispricing. The $1.2B BTC put wall at $60k will act as gravity if BTC loses $63k. And the ETH unstaking queue remains the biggest structural risk for any recovery attempt. If shorts get squeezed, it will be violent. If they don't, the grind lower continues.
